The Hamilton-Kurokawa Scholarship Fund is named in honor of the late actress Carrie Louise Hamilton (1963-2002) and the late eco-minded architect Dr. Kisho Kurokawa (1934-2007).
Actress, playwright, screenwriter, singer/songwriter and musician Carrie Louise Hamilton was the daughter of actor Carol Burnett and the late producer, Joe Hamilton. Carrie has been called a force of nature, a shooting star who lived with a joyous appetite for life and a deep concern for humanity. Carrie starred in such productions as the films Tokyo Pop and Cool World, the TV programs Murder She Wrote, Beverly Hills 90210, Thirtysomething, the X Files and Touched by an Angel, and the theater production Rent. She also co-wrote the play Hollywood Arms, based on her mother Carol Burnett's memoir One More Time. Carrie died of cancer on January 20th, 2002 at the age of 38.
Dr. Kisho Kurokawa (1934-2007) was a globally acclaimed architect, humanitarian and environmentalist.His major works can be found throughout the world including the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia, the National Art Center in Tokyo's posh Roppongi district, the new wing of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and the Astana Master Plan for the New Capital of Kazakhstan. In addition to his work in architecture, Dr. Kurokawa sat on numerous governmental advisory boards in Japan, China and Kazakhstan, and ran in the 2007 election for Tokyo Governor.
