Striving for Equity and Excellence in the Classroom
Striving for Equity and Excellence in the Classroom: 5 Strategies Centered on Student Voice.
While recent developments in educational policy and practice have encouraged more authentic and relevant approaches to teaching and learning, few pedagogical approaches center students’ voices, particularly among students of color. This presentation proposes 5 concrete, equity-driven pedagogical approaches informed by over 15 years of research directly with students of color across the educational pipeline. The proposed approaches are driven by additive frameworks such as excellence (Rodriguez, 2015) and Community Cultural Wealth (Yosso, 2005) and focus on students’ Educational Journeys, Student-Teacher Relationships, The Power of Students’ Voices and more.
